SEA (Search Engine Advertising) or SEM (Search Engine Marketing) are synonyms for paid internet marketing. How do those techniques relate to SEO ?

  • SEO will cost you time and sweat to implement (indirect cost), SEA will cost you money (direct cost of paying Google, Bing,...)
     
  • SEO will achieve its result with a slow ramp up – as your website will slowly achieve a better ranking. SEA will have an immediate effect, as soon as you activate your campaign.
     
  • SEO will cost you sweat: quite some work has to be done to construct a quality website, have the link building, have the regular content updates. Setting up an ad in SEA is quick and easy.
     
  • What you achieve with SEO will last for quite some time. It has a lag. SEA will give you a temporary result: stop paying, and you will not appear anymore on the SERP.
